Chasing the Bird

Winning Writers, named one of the “101 Best Websites for Writers” (Writer’s Digest, 2005-2010), has awarded my poem, “For Wile E. Coyote, Apetitius Giganticus,” Honorable Mention in its annual Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest.

Originally published in the Green Mountains Review, Vol. 23, No. 1, the poem takes an exclusive peek into the private life of this eternal and beloved optimist, his children, and his supportive, but suffering, wife, who is starting to worry what the neighbors think.

Follow the Brick Road

Brick Road Poetry Press has selected my poetry manuscript as a finalist for its 2010 Book Contest.

This year both the grand prizewinner and all five finalists received an offer for publication.  Though I had to decline this generous offer in light of my book contract with Bona Fide, I wish to thank the editors at Brick Road, and extend my congratulations to 2010 winner Michael Meyerhofer, and fellow finalists Rupert Fike, Grey Held, Jamie Thomas and Toni Thomas.

More Poetry to “Reed”

Daniel Tobin, Chair of the Writing, Literature and Publishing Department at Emerson College, has selected four of my poems for the Edwin Markham Prize in Poetry sponsored  by Reed Magazine.

My humble thanks to Nicholas Taylor and the entire staff at Reed, San Jose State University, and of course, Mr. Tobin, who also has graciously agreed to provide a blurb for my forthcoming poetry book, Mud Cakes.
